VGMQ - part 2 of 2 of Basics 2

Okay, now that Alan posted his results, we can go on to the other 5 songs of part 2. I'm not sure what I have in store for after this part - post harder trivia? I don't know... but whatever.

So turns out my predictions were... sorta okay. Let's see how well I do this time!

163 - Alan 0.5, David 0.7

Maybe this time, I put down the reasons why I put down my predictions first. This song is kinda unique, with feeling and vibe and instruments.. David I think has played the game, Alan might not've, but the music is quite associated with the game, I think.

40 - Alan 0.9, David 0.5

High score for Alan, because he'll get it right. It's a bit more iffy for David, so I don't know.

47 - Alan 0.6, David 0.5

Medium scores for both of you! Hopefully you guys can get the style of the game, and then narrow it down by just thinking of it.

55 - Alan 0.9, David 0.7

High scores for both of you! Congratulations. I hope you get it right then, at least to a degree.

271 - Alan 0.5, David 0.3

Low scores for both of you! Congratulations. I'll just say you both failed Classical Bomberman, but this game might be even older than Bomberman! .... maybe not. But maybe it's a familiar theme, so maybe someone will get it.

So Alan's point prediction is 3.4, David's is 2.7, so they're both quite high. I hope I'm correct, heh. Enjoy!

Let's see how well I do this time!:

163 = ummm...what the...you're right, don't think I've played this game before. But anyways, I'll throw out a random guess and guess Cool Spot.

40 = SMW 1, grasslands stages (ie: the first one)

47 = hmmm...only medium scores for both of us? Well, I guess it is hard to get the specific part of the specific game it comes from. Anyways, I'm going to guess Sonic 2 for genesis, Casino Zone. (or Chemical Plant Zone)

55 = Zelda OOT, Lost Woods. I think both of us should get this one. :P

271 = what the? Now this gets low scores for of us? Hmmm...maybe you don't really know David's gaming history that much, or maybe I'm just remembering wrong, but I'm pretty sure he loved Bubble Bobble. :)

I guess I got 4/5, and David will get 3/5.

Hmm.. I'd guess David would get 163, 55, and definitely 271... 40's rather unlikely unless he reads Alan's answer first or something. ;p

47... maybe... I'm quite sure he's played the game, but maybe not as much as other similar games, and... ...

Also, I believe Alan's played the game with #163, but I guess possibly not the part that includes that music...

And as usual, Alan overestimates his test score. ;p

163 - wow, so easy! ChuChuRocket, off course! :-)
I don't know if I heard this particular song before, though? It's not "create a puzzle" mode, is it?

40 - ... *squints*? Maybe some level in one of the super marios?
` btw, I still don't know why all the songs are playing sped up for me... . Makes it a bit harder to guess :-)

47 - ...??
a street fighter, maybe? the first part sounds like it might be a fighting game. but then the few seconds at the end sound too twinkly for a fighting game... .

55 - this is from some zelda. the image i'm getting is running through some 3d fields and bopping little rodents on the head ... ?

271 - lol, this was one of THE first games I ever played and owned!!! In fact, it was THE first game I (well, actually my big brother) ever bought (well, Bubble Bobble came in a Taito three pack, along with Operation Wolf and Arkenoid II - Vohauls Revenge. [Loved Bubble Bobble and Arkenoid..), very shortly after my brother bought that Tandy 1000 TL back in 1989 :-)

I think I did better on this one than the last :-)

wow, I actually played number 47? it doesn't even sound vaguely familiar to me!

*heh* and duy's completely right about the Bubble Bobble track -- I remember back in grade 12 when stumbling upon a midi of bubble bobble on his computer, that it was amazing that that song would play for literally an hour an a half, and you WOULDN'T GET TIRED of that game! :-)

Hey, Alan, when did Bubble Bobble ever come into our discussions? And when have you played it, yourself?

lol at Cool Spot, too, Alan :-)
I actually used to own that game for Game Gear, actually! Its music was considered amazing by Game Gear standards, actually.

(and I'm so totally spamming here)

but I'm not sure why I said VOHAUL'S revenge for Arkenoid II. It was some other guy's revenge, I think... lol, all these old games had some annoyed villain getting all vengeful or something ^^

*looks it up*

DUH.
You even TYPE IN "doh" at the command prompt to start the game. How'd I forget that Arkenoid II was the "Revenge of DOH"?

Well, regarding 47...I know that you own the sequel to the game that this track is in, though I can never remember if you've at least played the original...

Or it's possible you played the former game a little bit, but didn't get to the third stage...

Well, here are the answers:

163 = Chu-Chu Rocket - Puzzle mode
40 = Super Mario World - many stages
47 = Sonic the Hedgehog - Spring Yard Zone
55 = Zelda: Ocarina of Time - Lost Woods
271 = Bubble Bobble

aahh, alan made a good guess for 47!
no, i've only ever played sonic the hedgehog 2 for both game gear and genesis. [oh, and i briefly played a weird import game of sonic for game gear -- tails could actually fly in this one -- though i'm guessing it never game to the states. it actually wasn't that good a game, from what i could tell :-) ]

Dang, Spring Yard Zone was in the first Sonic. Does Spring Yard Zone at least look a bit like Casino Zone? :P Well, at least I narrowed it down to the series of game, so I'll count that as a 0.5, so I'll say I got 3.5/5 on this.

I don't remember any music from ChuChuRocket :P I only played it that one time long ago. But I DID play Bubble Bobble a lot on Nintendo back when I was young, I guess you just don't remember us talking about it. :P I thought you would so get that Sonic one this time.

And actually, I don't think I overestimate my test scores that much anymore, or if I do, it's not by that much. (I dunno, you should ask Jason, and I don't count the last Psych 253 test) Well, for the last exam I had, which was Stat 333, my final mark was even higher than what I predicted.

wow, from 2 comments to 9 comments in a matter of hours. So I guess there's not much more to add here.

Maybe it's time to rebuy that Taito Legends compilation, now that Loblaws is having a sale, so it'll be about $6. As for the other 4 games, I can play them now if I wanted to...

Arkenoid II was awesome because it had a level editor. That was loads of fun.
