VGMQ - Basics Part 2 - harder x5

Welcome to another edition of VGMQ - the basics! This one's still easy, but it's 5x harder - just to show you how messy it can be. It's not like I tried to make it 5x harder - but see, David was barely getting these 5. Like, he got them, but they were pretty guessful like, while Alan's answers were more confident.

I'll post 5 songs now, and on Tuesday I'll post another 5 songs.

54 = Alan 0.4, David 0.7
57 = Alan 0.6, David 0.3
172 = Alan 0.9, David 0.3
213 = Alan 0.7, David 0.4
9 = Alan 0.4, David 0.1

Song #9 is one of my favourite videogame musics of all time, so here's the full midi version:

Bao likes this midi

Also, on another note, Ambrose was here listening to the songs, and he know #57 but couldn't recall it off the top of his head. Explain how! Anyway, once again, experts should get these pretty nicely.

So, adding all the prediction totals, I predict Alan would get 3/5, and David would get 1.8/5 . But not really - that's the level of sureness and probability that they will get it, so if you guys want to do the math for me, maybe you can tell me what my predictions are. I'm actually thinking Alan might get 2/5, and David can possibly get 2/5. Once again, these are my predictions based on what I know of you guys - like, I know Alan has played Starcraft for sure, and I'm pretty certain David has never played Quake 2 - for example (neither of the games above (or next week) are Starcraft or Quake 2). Also note that the first song, #54, David has a higher prediction than Alan. I hope I'm right!

And for those like Ambrose that think they forgot #57, you can try the thing too! So - prediction for Duy - 4.9/5, which really means 5/5 except one song will take a couple seconds longer than the rest. heh.

(for me: nextime: 271 47 163 55 40)

ack, these were so much more than 5x harder!

9 - haven't heard of this. neat driving tune, though. (listened to the midi)

213 - why does this sound slightly familiar...?

172 - *laughs* all I can say is that it sounds like it has 007 in there?

57 - also sounds slightly familiar? Is it a super mario song?

54 - lol, you only gave me 0.7 for this one? boy, I miss playing this game, wish I still had it -- anyone you know who does?
` At any rate, this is from the first Toshinden, though I can't remember who's level.
` And I *STILL* think some of these clips are sped up! Unless maybe they somehow get sped up when I download them on my end?? Is this clip, for example, supposed to last for 34 seconds?
` I think it's Eiji's level -- the one with the waterfall, and the place where I experimented many times falling off the level because of the win animation?

So here are my answers, after just briefly listening to these once and not reading any of the comments:

54 = Battle Arena Toshinden, Eiji's stage? the one with a raised platform and mountains/hills and greenery in the background?

57 = SMB3, world map music

172 = Goldeneye, menu/mulitplayer menu music

213 = hmmmm...don't think I've ever played this game before, since I can't remember hearing the music, but I'd guess Earthbound

9 = dang, now I'm sure I've heard this one before, I just can't remember from where...I would say either some RPG from the NES/SNES era, or a Zelda game. Actually, probably a Zelda game. :P

54 - Alan 0.4, David 0.7

Both of you got this correct! Yes, it's Toshinden, and I think we have it, and now that we have a PS3 we can play it again! wheee...

57 - Alan 0.6, David 0.3

David said it was from a Mario game, and Alan correctly named the game, so I guess my predictions were close enough...

172 - Alan 0.9, David 0.3

Yes, it's from Goldeneye, a 007 game. I assumed David didn't play the game, but it was a long time ago (back in the N64 era) so I'm not sure if the gaming scene was different for you guys at Woodlands...

213 - Alan 0.7, David 0.4

Wow, nobody got this. It's the classic bomberman music, found in Bomberman 1, Super Bomberman, and I'm guessing most other Bomberman games too.

9 - Alan 0.4, David 0.1

Once again, I didn't think David would play this game, but it's from the SNES era, but it's not like the main character's theme or anything.

This is Vega's theme, from Street Fighter 2 - one of my favourite themes of all time. So, you all lose massive points because it's from a fighting game, not a driving game or an RPG :P

So, Alan got 3/5, and David got like, 1 + 1/4 + 3/4 = 2... sort of.

Anyway, now that Alan replied, here comes the next set!

Hmmm...I never played Bomberman 1, and I dunno if I've ever heard that theme before, but oh well...

And dang, I never really played SF2 that much...though I watched other people play it at the arcade. I didn't see Vega's stage much though; if you had put someone else's stage, like Guile's or E Honda's or Chun Li's, I would've gotten it. :P
